Hygric and Thermal Simulation

Transient thermal simulation of underground cables with PV loads

The video shows a simulation of underground cable array exposed to a cyclic daily clear sky photovoltaic load (maximum PV-load). The boundary conditions have been chosen to largely comply with the relevant standard VDE 0276 (20°C surface temperature, adiabatic boundaries below surface).
The measurements displayed show the critical temperatures of the cables PVC sheaths. This temperature must not exceed 70 °C to ensure the integrity of the cable is maintained. HTflux can be used to optimize the configuration of the cables or to test the application of thermal backfills or special bedding elements to improve heat dissipation.
